It would seem to me that you've left out the most important lesson in life. If it's worth doing it's worth doing right, and the only way you can make sure it's done right is to do it yourself. Granted you are right about the difference between a daily driver and a "toy." Granted there are certain circumstances where one cannot do the "work" themselves so we must rely on trained and experienced professionals and their tools (engine building, machine work, etc).
